The fact of the Watergate cover-up is not nearly as interesting as the step into making the cover-up. And when you understand the step, you understand that Richard Nixon lied. That he was a criminal. — Bob Woodward
Introduction
On June 17, 1972, five men were caught breaking into the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C.

On July 25, 1974, Texas Congresswomen Barbara Johnson gave an opening speech at President Nixon's impeachment hearing. This eventually led to President Richard Nixon's resignation.

I combined the speech by Congresswomen Johnson with the "smoking gun" tape recorded by Richard Nixon in the White House where he discusses the Watergate coverup.

The book is wiro bound. It folds open to be 12.7 x 4.2 inch, the size of
the Sony TC-800B, the tape recorder used by Nixon.
Inspiration
The building
The Watergate building itself is a huge fascinating piece of architecture. The layering of its design inspired me to think about the book as a piece that progresses and builds upon itself
Image manipulation
The late 1960s brought on a boom in screen-printing techniques. I used that as an inspiration for the image treatment. It also added a layer of distortion to the secrecy of the scandal.

Design

Uncover the book
To reflect the secret nature of the scandal and the coverup, I used a red film sheets that covers the Nixon tapes. When reading the book, the reader will turn the red film sheets to uncover's Nixon dialogue. In doing so, they turn the page to the left side, also uncovering the hidden green text within the red image.
